Children of various ages picked up age-appropriate bows Saturday, June 8, and took aim at targets during the Warren-McDuffie County Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation Jakes Day at Ogeechee River Mill.
“Some of these kids have never held a bow before. It’s all for fun,” said Missy Garner, one of the local chapter’s officers and host for the event.
She said three main prizes were given away to children and several other items were given away as door prizes.
The children with no or little experience shooting a bow were instructed by Brian Adams and Grant Matherly, of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, or other adults such as local NWTF members and parents. The beginning shooters took aim on large targets attached to round hay bales. The shooters with more experience and skill sharpened their talents by shooting at 3-D animal targets nearby.
