McDuffie County Partners for Success celebrated some of the people who help change the lives of students.
The local non-profit organization held its annual Mentoring Celebration Thursday morning, which honored mentors and the students they work with.
“This is our opportunity to say a small ‘thank you’ to these volunteers,” said PFS Executive Director Miriam Smith. “They work with these students all year, and develop very strong relationships with their students.”
During the event Thursday at the Partners’ office on White Oak Road, participants played games, dined on refreshments (including popcorn provided by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated Thomson Alumnae Chapter), and learned about fire and burn safety from Thomson Fire Department. Many of the prizes given away during the event were donated by local businesses.
“We are always honored and humbled by the support we receive from the community,” Mrs. Smith said. “They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we certainly have the support of our ‘village.’’’
