Christine Hooks Branch
Christine Hooks Branch, 73, of Pineview Drive, entered into rest on June 1, 2013 at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wed., June 5, at Macedonia United Methodist Church with Rev. David Sisler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Branch was born in Warthen, Ga. and was the daughter of the late Eulas H. Hooks and the late Minnie Rowland Hooks. She graduated from Baldwin High School and attended Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville. Mrs. Branch worked as a legal secretary for Jefferson County Probate Court and retired as assistant manager from Badcock in Thomson. She was a member of the Camellia City Lionís Club and a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church. Mrs. Branch was a faithful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 51 years, Don L. Branch; son, Delston H. Branch II and wife Bonnie of Washington, Ga.; daughter, Donna B. Stillinger and husband Victor of Thomson, Ga.; sister, Joanne Nardi of North Augusta, S.C.; and grandchildren, Grace Ann Branch and Grant Stillinger as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Childrenís Home, the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
Friends may call the residence of Donna and Victor Stillinger, 1491 Cedar Creek Drive, Thomson, Ga. or from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Jonathan Elam, Sr.
Jonathan L. Elam, Sr., 41, of Lincolnton, husband of Shoronda Elam & father of Bryson, Jonathan, Jr., & Ceseley, passed away on Mon., May 27, 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Sat., June 1, at 2 p.m. at Mulberry C.M.E. Church & Cemetery.

Sara J. Heard
Sara Jones Heard, 95, of Augusta, formerly of Tignall, entered into rest on May 29, 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Sat., June 1, at 11 a.m. at Beggs Funeral Home in Lincolnton. Interment will be in Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery in Tignall.
Visitation will be held on Fri., May 31, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral Home.

Martha Jackson
Funeral services for Martha Mae Huff Jackson, 69, of Thomson, will be held on Sat., June 1, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Aldred C.M.E. Church in Warrenton. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Thomson Funeral System is handling the arrangements.

Mikel R. Powell
Mikel Ray Powell, 65, of Thomson, husband of Karen G. Powell, passed away on Fri., May 31, 2013.
Memorial services will be held on Tues., June 4, at 2 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors in Augusta. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Mary E. Singletary

Mary E. Singletary
Mary Elizabeth Powell Singletary, 89, of Waynesboro, Ga., went home to be with her Lord on Wed., May 29, 2013. She was born March 3, 1924 in Vienna, Ga. to the late Julius Floyd Powell and Lena Pearl Smith Powell. On May 9, 1942, she married Charlie B. Singletary, Sr. When Charlie was stationed overseas during WWII, Mary was a welder on the ship dock in Jacksonville, Fla. on the St. Johnís River. After the war, they farmed and started a family in South Georgia until moving to this area in 1951. They continued to farm together while he worked for the next 25 years at the VA Hospital. In 1962, she went to work at Gracewood State School and Hospital, where she worked with special needs children. After they both retired, they continued to farm, raise cattle, and bought a home at the lake, where they enjoyed fishing, gardening, and retirement. They moved back to their home in Waynesboro in the mid 1980s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie B. Singletary, Sr.; her son, Charlie B. Singletary, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Carol Diane Singletary; two son-in-laws, William L. Hawkins and James Edward Loren, Sr.; two great grandsons, Ashton Gray and Joah Lane Hawkins; and great granddaughter, Brittney Lee Jernigan.
She is survived by five daughters, Donna Self (Terry) of Waynesboro, Sue Johnson (Vic) of Grovetown, Jane Loren of Augusta, Jennifer Hawkins of Dearing, and Babs Bourne (Bob) of Fries, Va.; 17 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Fri., May 31, at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Sat., June 1, at Crossroads Baptist Church. Pastor Josh Williams and Pastor Mike Andrews officiated. Interment followed at Hephzibah-Vance Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lee Hawkins, Lynn Hawkins, Larry Hawkins, Jr., Gabrielle Johnson, Chase Johnson, Terry Self, Jr., John Buchwitz, and Christopher Bishop.

Twila Wheeler
Twila Ann Hadden Wheeler, 50, of Wrens, wife of Dennis James Wheeler, passed away on Fri., May 31, 2013.
Funeral services were held on Mon., June 3, at James Funeral Home. Interment was in Wrens Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family received friends on Sun., June 2, at the funeral home.
