The Thomson Diamond Dogs squeaked by Jefferson County 9-8 at Bulldog Field Thursday night to capture second place in Region 3-AAA.
Senior Jared Holliman knocked in the go-ahead runs in the sixth. Coming on in relief of Tripp Jones, Holliman struck out 3-of-4 batters in the seventh to seal the win and Thomson’s 14th win of the season, to go along with 10 losses.
Had THS lost, they would have had to face Dodge County on Saturday to determine second place in the region.
“Jared stepped it up on Senior Night and did what seniors do,” said Aaron Hall, Thomson head coach. “He hasn’t had the season he would have preferred. But as the weather heats up, he heats up, and it was great to have him do so well.”
