The crowd at the Thomson First Baptist Church enjoyed a musical celebration featuring gospel music from the Harmony Harmoneers of Conley, a jubilee gospel group that perform traditional a cappella gospel songs and African American spirituals. Decorus, Augusta’s premiere youth choir, began the event with an artistic whiplash of music that covered many periods and style. The teenagers are the top high school vocalists in the CSRA. The evening of music was presented in association with the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibit “New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music.” The exhibit at the McDuffie Museum is open from noon-5 p.m. For more information on the events surrounding the exhibit, visit www.exploremcduffiecounty.com and click on the New Harmonies tab.
