The first game of the Augusta Greenjackets baseball season was special for the Thomson Elementary School Choir.
Thirty-eight second and third graders from the school sang the national anthem at the April 5 season opener of the minor league team.
The opportunity to sing at the baseball game was by chance, said the school’s music instructor Janie Kate Blasingame.
“The children sang the National Anthem at a THS football game in the fall. The next week, we received a call from the Greenjackets’ Bill Levy, asking us to perform during the season. We ended up choosing the opening game because it fit in the schedule,” she said.
