Kay Podem, one of the three daughters of the owners of the former Kunnes Department Store in Thomson, returned to McDuffie County last week and promoted her latest book, “Don’t I Know You.”
The title was based on the same phrase often used by Podem’s husband of 30 years, before he disappeared for six years.
The author graduated from Thomson High School in 1955 and headed to college in Athens. While at the University of Georgia she met a boy who was to become her husband. She graduated with a business administration degree in 1959 and the couple moved to Dothan, Ala.
Podem said they had originally planned to move to Dothan, where her father-in-law owned a store, for just a few years.
