STAR students from across 12 counties gathered at First Baptist Church, Thomson, Tuesday night to find out who would be selected as the Region 7 STAR student.
The PAGE (Professional Association of Georgia Educators) STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) Program is in its 55th year and has honored more than 23,500 students and their teachers. Each STAR student selects a STAR teacher the educator the student thinks has had the most influence on his or her academic achievement. To be nominated for STAR, a high school senior must have the highest score on a single test date on the three-part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students in their class based on grade point average. Typically, one student is picked per county but occasionally two are tied for the county honors.
