Nearly 100 educators, including three from McDuffie County, recently experienced four days of Marine Corps boot camp. The commands they received to “fix it” and to “do it right” were used by those teaching the teachers.
Along with footing the bill for the educators’ visit, the Marines put the instructors to the test as they passed on a glimpse of what recruits go through every day and it wasn't easy. In a hands-on way, the educators saw how recruits are trained in hopes that they will be able to pass on what they learned — the values, good health and how the Marines instill discipline.
The group, divided between the Nashville and Columbia, S.C. Marine recruiting stations included three from McDuffie County. Cecil Strong, Thomson High School principal; Brian Baldowski, Thomson High School language arts teacher, and Cdr. Keith Ullman, senior Naval Science instructor, were among the Columbia, S.C. group.
