• Briarwood opens baseball season with 7-4 loss
By Wayne Parham

Although the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers lost their opening game of the season 7-4, the team played a solid game in all but the opening inning.
The Bucs opened the baseball season on the road Friday at Thomas Jefferson Academy. Briarwood gave up five runs in the first inning.
“After the first inning things went great. I guess we kind of had the first game jitters, I guess you could say,” said Briarwood Coach Kevin Cowart.
Briarwood pitcher Bryce Sowell struggled early in his season debut as he struck the first batter in the head then walked several others. He also struck a second batter in the first inning.
