Despite the looming threat of rain Tuesday afternoon, the Thomson-McDuffie Middle School Bulldogs pulled off their first win of the season defeating Glascock County 11-1.
The team is under the leadership of Head Coach Brock Hawkins, a 2004 Thomson High graduate. He has coached in Wrens as a volunteer the past two years before joining the TMMS coaching staff this year.
The win improves the TMMS record to 1-1. In the opening game of the season the Bulldogs fell to Washington-Wilkes, 9-2.
“We stayed in there with them for about three or four innings then they had one big inning and we didn’t do anything after that,” he said.
Hawkins said a pre-season scrimmage was washed out and practices were hampered by rain for about two weeks before his team jumped straight into competitive play.
