McDuffie County’s fire and ambulance service should merge into one entity beginning in late June.
The McDuffie Public Safety Committee, which met Wednesday afternoon, will make that recommendation to the County Commission for its approval.
The county had been looking for a company to provide an emergency ambulance service within the unincorporated areas of the county, the City of Thomson, the Town of Dearing and possibly the unincorporated areas of Glascock County.
The Public Safety Committee recently agreed to keep the ambulance service in the county instead of entering a contract to privatize the service.
“We want to see how it would work in an in-house setting as opposed to outsourcing,” said Fred Favors, committee chairman.
