• Sivas’ attorney ready for trial
By Linda Green

Mitchell Sivas, the former Harlem High School instructor charged with having a sexual relationship with a then 17-year old student, underwent a jury pretrial hearing on March 4.
Sivas and his attorney, Kirk Emerson Gilliard, stood before Superior Court Judge Harold Hinesley and noted their readiness for trial.
But, with approval from the district attorney’s office, the prosecutor and the defense will participate in a pre-trial conference March 6 in either Hinesley’s chambers or the courtroom to address any unresolved issues before Sivas’ case is complete and before it goes to trial.
