• New auto taxes impact state’s vehicle owners
By Linda Green

State and local sales tax for Georgia residents will no longer apply to vehicles purchased in the state.
This is part of a new change in the way the state taxes motor vehicles that went into effect Friday, March 1.
“But best of all, there will be no more ad valorem tax, now known as the Birthday Tax, to be paid on newly purchased vehicles,” said McDuffie County Tax Commissioner Sandra Whitaker.
Whitaker was among the commissioners from six area counties participating in a Tue., Feb. 26 press conference in Augusta to make people across the CSRA aware of the new law and how the changes will impact car owners.
The commissioners encouraged the CSRA to be patient as they and staffers in county tag offices learn about the changes to and apply them to their residents.
