The McDuffie County Board of Education will hold the first of three public hearings on Tuesday to receive input concerning the proposed changes to the school attendance zones.
The proposed changes would expand the Dearing school zone, increase the number of students attending Dearing Elementary, and better racially balance the classes by moving some black students from Thomson schools to the Dearing school.
The Tuesday, March 5 hearing is set for 9 a.m. and will be held at the board of education building, located at 716 N. Lee Street in Thomson.
Maps of the proposed changes to the school attendance district will be available for public review at that hearing, according to the superintendent’s office.
