• Program to protect the elderly from fraud begins

A program to help banks protect the elderly against financial fraud was launched by the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 12.
Mc$AFE-McDuffie County Stopping Adult Financial Exploitation—is a 45-minute training program for banks and any financial institution that does banking or makes loans to the elderly. It is geared to helping banks in McDuffie County react to and report suspected financial exploitation of their elderly and disabled customers.
According to Deputy Barry Whitfield, the crime prevention practitioner for the sheriff’s office, Georgia has seen an increase in financial fraud of the elderly.
