Looking after widows in their distress and empowering them to see God’s plan for their lives is the focus of a nearly seven-year old ministry in McDuffie County.
God’s Golden Girls seeks to model the mandate of caring for and honoring the widow.
“Widow, in Hebrew which is Jesus’ language, means divorce, abandonment or by death,” said Mary Ann Haire, who along with Joyce Newsome, founded the ministry.
The role of the “GGs,” which is how the group is affectionately known, is two-fold: to teach widows about their purpose in God’s plan and to educate churches and pastors about the importance of caring for the widows in their congregations.
