“I am black and I am proud of it,” said a Thomson nonagenarian as she explained the importance of Black History and the impact of the March on Washington to America.
Maude M. Wilcher, 96, grew up in McDuffie County, worked in the field, raised 13 children and is a lifelong member of Stamp Branch Baptist Church in Warrenton.
She has witnessed numerous changes in the county and country in her lifetime.
“The most significant change in McDuffie County was that black children got a chance to go to school and some children today do not even appreciate it,” Wilcher said.
