• Commissioners compromise on magistrate’s salary increase

The Chief Magistrate will get an increase in salary but not the $15,000 increase he requested.
The County Commission issued a compromise to Chief Magistrate Judge Bryant Swan on Tuesday by agreeing to pay him $40 per hour with a maximum of $40,000 a year.
Swan had requested that his salary be increased from $35,000 to $50,000 to make his income comparable to other part-time magistrate judges who are also attorneys. He told the commission that his salary was commensurate with 12 to 13 hours of work a week but does not count for his being an attorney.
