Purchases of gun permits and concealed carry handgun permits have spiked in McDuffie County as well as across the country.
Valerie Burley, McDuffie County probate judge, said more people than normal have been getting the concealed carry permits.
In September-October of 2012, she said her office handled about 20 applicants a month. In December, 2012, the number jumped to 46 and in January of this year, 50 people filed for the permits.
Recent shooting incidents involving assault-type weapons have drawn legislative action in the form of gun control talk.
