• NTSB records show two other fatal crashes here since 1962
By Wayne Parham

According to the National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) online Accident Database & Synopsis, there have been two other fatal plane crashes in the area of the Thomson-McDuffie County Airport since 1962.
The database is comprised of preliminary reports which are then updated by factual reports, giving a final description of the accidents and the probable causes for each. The database contains information about civil aviation accidents since 1962.

Since 1962, NTSB has documented eight incidents associated with the Thomson area prior to Wednesday night’s crash. Of those incidents, two were fatal.
The more recent of the two fatal crashes occurred on March 13, 1998. The other prior fatal crash killed the pilot and a passenger on May 2, 1982.
