The walls are coming down at the old Winn-Dixie store.
The building, located at the intersection of Augusta Highway and the Thomson By-pass, is being torn down from the inside out.
Workers from Chaplin and Sons Demolition Company have been at the work for nearly a month and recently began knocking down the exterior walls on the building that is owned by McKnight Properties.
The 40,831-square-foot McDuffie Square store was built in 1987 to replace the store on Jackson Street. The new store closed in 2005 when nearly 325 Winn Dixie locations were shuttered under a company restructuring effort.
The demolition company expects the majority of the teardown work to be completed in close to two weeks.
