• Board reluctant to transfer water/sewer funds
By Linda Green

McDuffie County commissioners are still reluctant to transfer $327,900 of money remaining in three water and sewer district operating accounts to the Water-Sewer Commission.
Since one water-sewer system exists to serve the city and county, it has been recommended that the remaining money be transferred into the renewals and extension account under the control of the Water-Sewer Commission.
In at least six meetings, a motion to transfer the funds failed.
Commissioner Sammie Wilson expressed concerns about nearly $300,000 in water-sewer monies being withheld by the city in what he called a “drift” fund.
