• Bond not set for weekend murder suspect
By Linda Green

The man charged with the Saturday murder of Jonathan Curry had his first appearance before a judge on Monday.
Winston Orlando Smith, 21, of the 200 block of Dunn Street, had his first appearance before McDuffie County Magistrate Judge William Bryant Swan but bail could not be set.
According to the magistrate’s office, the charge against Smith carries a possible death penalty or life in prison sentence. A superior court judge can only set a bond in murder cases.
