• Council talks Depot and Railroad Street bids
By Linda Green

City officers received permission from the City Council on Tuesday to go forward on apparent low bids received from companies wanting to work on the Depot and on the city’s downtown walkway revitalization project.
The companies are vying to work on a project to stabilize and renovate the old Chamber of Commerce portion of the Depot and perform multiphase streetscape work along Railroad Street. The street work includes reconfiguring the traffic flow, the parking spaces, adding sidewalks and pedestrian improvement flow.
The city received an $800,000 federal grant that is administered through the Georgia Department of Transportation for the pedestrian improvements along Railroad Street, as well as renovation and stabilization work on a portion of the Depot complex. The grant requires a local match of 20 percent or $200,000.
