• City to get new road signs, officers to patrol schools
By Linda Green

A majority of highway and traffic signs and stripes in Thomson will soon be replaced.
The City Council, meeting Thurs., Jan. 10, accepted a DOT recommendation to allow Diversified Traffic to perform Thomson’s Off System Safety enhancement project for 2013.
The council also championed efforts by the Thomson Police Department to make schools safer by having on- duty patrol officers walk the hallways.
The Georgia Department of Transportation provides cities and counties money to address road safety. The department reports that 35 percent to 45 percent of traffic fatalities occur on city streets and county roads.
