Christmas came early for the children who attend the Boys and Girls Club of Thomson. They received wrapped shoe boxes filled with goodies on Friday.
"A Christmas Shoe Box,” an initiative of the McDuffie County Human Development Center, sought to provide a gift to the more than 100 children who attend the Boys and Girls Club on a regular basis.
According to Kimberly Ivey, director of the development center, the idea for the shoe box gifts was prompted by two things. She remembered a story that her mother told her about looking forward to Christmas and receiving a shoe box full of goodies from Santa. She also noted the response people from McDuffie County gave to Operation Christmas Child, which provides shoeboxes of items to children in other countries.
