Hospital Authority expects large refunds from Medicaid and Medicare
By Linda Green

The finances of former the McDuffie Regional Medical Center were the order of the day for the members of the hospital authority.
Seven board members, including one present by telephone, learned of $398,940 the hospital expects to receive from Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements on Dec. 18. The money will be reconciled between the Hospital Authority and University Hospital-McDuffie.
According to Bill Doupe, authority chairman, the expected money is from a Medicare Bad Debt examination of five years of cases that found discrepancies in what patients were to pay and what Medicare was to pay. The anticipated money is also for meeting government deadlines in electronic health records.
