• Beer in pants leads to man’s felony arrest

A Thomson man who entered a local supermarket and put two cans of beer inside his clothing was arrested Wednesday night.
Melvin Mathis, 53, of the 200 block of Hoey Street, entered the Bi-Lo and put two 24 ounce cans of Ice House beer inside his clothing and exited the store, said Thomson Police Captain Jamie Bridges.
The store manager, who observed Mathis' action, called the police.
