Faith Haley, 5, a kindergarten student at Maxwell Elementary School, sat quietly with her class the Friday before Christmas as they used crackers, icing, candy and milk cartons to make little gingerbread-like houses.
She glanced toward the doorway after her class was told they had a special surprise.
Faith rose out of her seat and proclaimed “my Mommy” as she ran to greet her mom, who had been away at sea since June.
“I hadn’t seen her in a while and I wanted to see her,” said the kindergarten student.
Her mom, Kayla Haley, is in the United States Navy and serves on the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
