• Board divided over water-sewer monies
By Linda Green

The McDuffie County Commission is divided on what to do with more than $327,000 remaining from water and sewer district operating accounts.
The commissioners have been reluctant to transfer monies remaining in three accounts after the leveling of water-sewer rates.
When the water-sewer rate leveling began in October as a result of refinancing debt, a total of $327,936 was left in the county’s old sewer fund, a water district account and a renewals and extensions account.
Since one water-sewer system exists to serve the city and county, it has been recommended that the remaining money be transferred into the renewals and extension account for the Water-Sewer Commission.
