• Fire damages wooded area

Firefighters from McDuffie Fire Rescue, Thomson Fire Rescue and Georgia Forestry responded to a blaze behind a church on Salem Road Monday. About 4:45 p.m., fire crews were called to a wooded area between Murray Lane and Faith Baptist Church. Stephen Sewell, MCFRS assistant chief, said the fire, which appeared to have started from an earlier land clearing effort by a resident, burned nearly half of an acre.
