McDuffie County Fire and Rescue responded to a Tuesday afternoon woods fire that it says was caused by unattended outdoor burning.
Nine firefighters and two engines responded to a 3:31 p.m. emergency call for a brush fire at 1986 Lake Drive in Thomson. When the crew arrived, they found approximately three acres of woods and brush on fire and a burning two-story storage shed.
Personnel, with assistance from Georgia Forestry, contained and extinguished the flames, searched for hot spots and departed the scene at 5:28 p.m.
