Enhancing young people's knowledge of Jesus Christ and planting seeds for spirituality is the mission of the Rev. Bernard Grant.
Grant works daily performing his mission as chaplain of the Thomson High School Bulldogs, area representative of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, coach and associate pastor of Second Union Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C.
The 1974 graduate of Thomson High School is a spiritual guide to middle school and high school athletics in McDuffie, Warren, Lincoln and Wilkes counties.
As chaplain to the Bulldogs, Grant tries to motivate the players prior to each game.
“I will relate a Bible story or section of the Bible to what we are doing or who we are playing,” he said. “I try to give spiritual inspiration to the kids, letting them know that they need to believe in something beyond themselves and beyond this world.”
