Teachers, students, families and others gathered Wednesday afternoon at Dearing Elementary as the school inducted the first members into its newly formed National Junior Beta Club.
The formation of the club was driven by Dr. Gwendolyn Ivey, assistant principal, who had formed several clubs while working in Columbia County.
“It’s an honor and a privilege for students in grades five through nine. They have to have great academic, leadership abilities, as well as character,” said Ivey.
Ivey explained that the fifth grade teachers reviewed student’s performance as fourth graders then evaluated that alongside the first nine weeks of the students’ fifth grade year.
