The jobless rate for McDuffie County fell to 9.5 percent in September.
According to a Oct. 25 Georgia Department of Labor announcement, the jobless rate for McDuffie County was down from 11.6 percent in August. The latest numbers also show improvement when compared to September 2011’s rate of 11.2 percent.
Bob Keith, who leads the Georgia Department of Labor in Thomson, attributes the decline to the decrease in the number of jobless claims filed and claims running out. "Hopefully more people are going back to work," he said.
Keith, whose office covers McDuffie, Washington, Wilkes, Warren, Taliaferro, Hancock and Lincoln counties, said that McDuffie County is the lowest in unemployment.
