• Water and sewer rates to be leveled by 2014

A two-step process will level water and sewer rates for customers in Thomson and McDuffie County by the end of 2014.
The City Council, in a three to two vote, and the Board of Commissioners, in a three to one vote, approved a recommendation from the Water and Sewer Commission on Tuesday that calls for a leveling of all water and sewer rates in two steps, over a two-year period.
In step one, changes will occur on the first bill of 2013, and in step two, changes will be reflected on the first bill of 2014.
According to the recommendation, some residents on the older, original water and sewer system will see an increase and residents in the newer areas of water and sewer expansion will see a decrease.
