• Display of gun leads to assault charges for Thomson man

A Thomson man has been charged with assault for displaying a firearm and making offensive contact upon two people in April.
The McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gary Avera, 41, of the 700 block of Central Road on Oct. 12 and charged him with three counts of simple assault. Avera was taken into custody as the result of a criminal arrest warrant filed by Investigator Larry Adaway in May.
