• Harlem gearing up for Oliver Hardy Festival
By Linda Green

The festival that recognizes a famous comedy duo that made successful comedy films for decades and honoring the town that birthed one of them is around the corner.
Oliver Hardy was born in Harlem, Ga., January 18, 1892 and he teamed up with Stan Laurel a few years after his 1918 arrival in Hollywood. The men went on to become a renowned comedy team. They remained partners and friends until Hardy’s death in 1957.
Harlem, in an effort to keep Hardy’s legacy alive, introduced a festival honoring the hometown comedian in 1988. On Oct. 6, the 24th Annual Oliver Hardy Festival will take place.
