A small crowd of women and children gathered Saturday morning to raise awareness about infant mortality.
The Infant Mortality Awareness Walk started at the park next to the Thomson fire station on Main Street and proceeded to the library, where the group gathered to remember the infants lost.
“In this county, there are 43 babies that died within the last 10 years,” said Debra Griffin, community outreach coordinator for Enterprise Community Healthy Start. “The rate here in McDuffie County is 13.1, compared to the state rate of 8.1. So that’s very high for this county.”
