• Briarwood Bucs build lead, but watch it slip away

Despite taking an early lead in front of the home crowd on Friday night, the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers fell to Westminster Schools of Augusta, 35-30.
The Bucs took control of the game offensively from the start by churning up 145 yards on the ground in the opening quarter, with three backs picking up nearly 50 yards each.
Fifth Newton, who contributed 48 first-quarter yards, put the first Briarwood points on the board with an eight-yard touchdown run with 7:72 remaining in the opening quarter. The point after set Briarwood’s initial lead, 7-0.
The Bucs expanded that lead with a three-yard touchdown carry by Bryce Sowell with 4:26 left in thefirst quarter. Sowell gained 49 yards in the first quarter. Likewise, Dakota Reese also gained 49 yards in the first quarter.
