County seeks proposals for ambulance service
By Linda Green

The McDuffie County Board of Commissioners is preparing to begin accepting proposals from companies to provide emergency ambulance service within McDuffie County, the City of Thomson, the town of Dearing and other areas.
The parties were given copies of the forthcoming proposal request on Aug. 31.
According to Bruce Tanner, Chief of McDuffie County Fire Rescue, the former McDuffie Regional Medical Center had a contract with the county to operate an ambulance service. Once the hospital was sold, University Hospital system officials expressed no interest running an emergency ambulance service. But, they will run the existing service for an indefinite period of time, he added.
