An assortment of firefighters, EMS workers and lawmen gathered Wednesday evening at Belle Meade Hunt for the annual cookout to honor emergency responders.
This was the 11th year of the cookout, which began the year after the Sept. 11 terrorist attack which killed firefighters, police officers, and others in New York
“I don’t know of a group of people in this county that make the footprint that each of you do,” said Charlie Lewis, Master of Fox Hunt of Belle Meade Hunt, as he addressed public safety workers and volunteers from McDuffie County. “There’s a wreck on I-20, or there’s a fenderbender, it doesn’t make a difference, some of you are there. There’s a kitchen fire, it may be accidental or it may be because the grill’s dirty, who knows? But your there.”
