Aaron Donnelly, 17, of Thomson is on a mission to collect worn, weathered, and tattered American flags for a proper retirement.
Donnelly, a member of Troop 125 (sponsored by First United Methodist Church) will be holding a flag retirement ceremony Saturday, Oct. 13, at the county fire station on Salem Road. He chose organizing a flag retirement ceremony as his Eagle Scout project.
He has placed collection boxes at drop-off locations around Thomson. Area businesses and residents are urged to check the status of their flags. If they are looking shabby and in need of retirement, they can be deposited at one of the drop-off locations now through October 5.
