• Foreclosures drive McDuffie housing market
By Linda Green

While the sale of existing homes is reportedly on the rise nationally, McDuffie County realtors say foreclosures drive sales in this area’s depressed market.
Figures released by the National Association of Realtors, reported that sales of existing homes in the country jumped 2.3 percent to 4.47 million from a year ago and that the median price for an existing home jumped 9.4 percent from last year, increasing the price from $171,200 to $187,300.
According to Linda Davis, a realtor at Century 21-Larry Miller Realty, the median price for a home in McDuffie County is between $80,000 and $100,000.
“Our sales have not increased nor have home values increased,” she said. The county’s housing market is depressed as a result of foreclosures, she noted.
