It only took a short time for a stove fire to claim a home in the Washington Heights neighborhood early Wednesday morning.
McDuffie County Fire Rescue and Thomson Fire Rescue were sent to 246 Cedar Street at 1:12 a.m.
Stephen Sewell, McDuffie County Fire Rescue assistant chief, said the single-story wood frame home was 80 percent involved in flames when firefighters arrived.
Nearly 20 firefighters from the two departments responded and brought the blaze under control in about 45 minutes and spent nearly 90 more minutes putting out hot spots and on salvage and overhaul.
