After being down by 14 points, the Thomson Bulldogs scored three unanswered touchdowns to defeat the Burke County Bears at the Bear’s Den Friday night.
In the regular season opener for both teams, three different Bulldogs scored TDs, and the Thomson defense toughened to allow the Dogs to end a four-year losing streak to the Bears, winners of their last 12.
The Bulldogs helped Milan Turner, Thomson second-year head coach, earn his 75th win. The coach said he was proud of the toughness Thomson showed against the Class AAA champs.
“I’ve never been more proud of a group of kids than I am this group here tonight,” he said. “They showed great character down 14-0 to win that game in this environment against defending state champs is unbelievable. Hats off to the kids, they did it all.”
