Briarwood Academy’s Lady Bucs headed into the team’s region debut for the season with a 4-4 record after defeating Gatewood Schools on Monday.
Hannah DeMore, head softball coach for Briarwood, said her team took a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning and held on for the win.
Briarwood opened it’s region schedule thursday afternoon at Bethlehem Christian Academy, but results of the game were not available at press time.
The Lady Bucs face a string of road games — Piedmont, Curtis Baptist, John Hancock, David Emanuel, and Thomas Jefferson — before stepping back onto their home field finally on Sept. 8 as they host Trinity Christian. Among this year’s region, opponents, DeMore said Thomas Jefferson will be the team to beat.
