• Qualifying for vacant council seat is Sept. 4-5

Qualifying for the City Council seat that was vacated by the death of Bernice Brown will be Sept. 4 and Sept. 5 and citizens of District 6 will elect a new council person on Nov. 6.
Thomson Mayor Kenneth Usry and City Clerk Diane Landers announced the qualifying dates during the council’s Thursday evening meeting.
Brown died July 7. She served as a member of the city council since 2008 and was into her second term when she died.
The residents of District 6 will go to Bethel Baptist Church to elect a new council representative. They also will join the rest of the country that day in voting for the next President of the United States, and members of the House of Representatives and Senate.
