Veteran math teacher Kim Barnett has spent much of the summer preparing for a career shift as she leaves the classroom behind and moves into the role of assistant principal at Thomson High School.
She has been training with Pat Farner, the outgoing assistant principal for curriculum, since the week after school ended for the summer.
Barnett, who has taught at THS for 22 years, will fill one of the three assistant principal roles at THS. Mike Smallwood, in charge of vocational classes, and Roderick Hilton, who oversees discipline, will be returning as assistant principals this year.
